NU Reduces Application Fees for 1st Year Admission Test

The National University (NU) authorities have reduced the application fee for the Bachelor (Hons) first year admission-seekers for the academic session 2015-2016.<br /><br />The application fee has been fixed at Tk. 250/- from the existing Tk. 300/-.</div>

<br /><br />As part of various steps taken by the NU authorities to ease its session jam, interested students could start applying from 1st October this year, several months earlier than the previous year. <br /><br />National University would not go for entrance exams this year and would admit first-year students based on their SSC and HSC results.<br /><br />The decision came from a meeting, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of National University Professor Dr. Harun-or-Rashid. The media statement added that the class for the upcoming session will begin on December 01, 2015.</div>

A lecturer of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Samia Farhana Soma ousts four female students from the class for wearing Niqab.<br /><br />The incident took place at the Zoology department of the University on September 22, 2015. Those female students complained to the Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Dr. Farzana Islam about the incident on September 16, 2015 (Wednesday).</div>

<br />The female students mentioned in the complaint that, we are from Muslim families. We do 'Purdah' from our early age as a family tradition. We were never encountered any resistance for our Niqab in other school and colleges. Till now, we keep wearing Niqab at the university with freedom.<br /><br />But the harsh truth is that, the teacher of 202-number course in 2nd year Samia Farhana Soma was forced us to open the Niqab in the last two days. We were forced to open our Niqab for two days against the intense pressure from her. Later, we again started taking part in the classes with Niqab, but she threw us out of the class and ordered us to not attend her class. Certainly, we have become upset. <br /><br />The lecturer Samia Farhana Soma said, I said them to take off the Niqab in the class, because I cannot understand their expression with Niqab. But they would not listen to me at all times.<br /><br />President of the department Professor Md. Munawar Hossain said, I don't hear the matter till now. So, I cannot say anything about this. </div>

Freshers Reception and Debating Competition Held at JU

Debating Society of Economics (DSE) - an organization of Economics department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) organized the fresher's reception and debating competition.<br /><br />The program was organized at Faculty of Social Sciences of the university on September 12, 2015 (Saturday). The former president of the Student Conference of the Economics department AKM Shahidur Rahman was the chief guest on the occasion.</div>

<br />Professor Anu Muhammad said in his chief guest speech, "University education means that you learn much more than the theoretical knowledge. He said, "There is no man without merit. Each student should try to develop their own merit."<br /><br />Inter-batch debating competition was held at the second phase of the program. The 44th batch students win the competition by defeating the 42nd batch. The winning team debaters are- Mushfiq, Abir, and Biplob. The best debater is Mushfiqus Salehin Mim. <br /><br />Founder president of the organization Omar Faruk Sujan; Moderator, an associate professor Amin Masood Ali; Acting President of the department Professor Mohammad Amjad Hossain and other teachers of the department attend the program while Ishrat Sharmin in the chair.<br /><br />General Secretary of former student conference Md. Moin Uddin, Dr. Taufiq Ahmed Chowdhury, Nesar Ahmed and members of the conference were also attended the program. <br /></div>

<br />A DU press release on on September 10, 2015 said that the scholarship were given to Rumana Rashid Rusi, Khadija-Tul-Kobra and Mahfuja Akter Onto of Arts faculty, Sarmina Rima, Jothi Roy, Shifat Jahan shifa, Tasdida Afrin Anny and Jannatul Ferdaus of Sociology faculty, Mabia, Sayeed Fatema Akhter and Rifat Ara Niju of Science faculty, Dipti Rani Das, and Alyea Hossain Lima of Business Studies faculty, Romana Akther and Israt Dilruba Mitro of Biology faculty and Farhana Islam of Pharmacy faculty.<br /><br />Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed scholarship among the students at the Shamsunnahar Hall's auditorium in the university.<br /><br />Treasure of the University Professor Dr. M. Kamal Uddin presided over the scholarship handing over ceremony while Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Shahid Akhtar Hossain attended as special guest.</div>
