<br />Board exams or O-levels/A-levels are definitely important - but medical admission tests are more important than anything else as there is lots of competition, most important of which is your MBBS academic life and consequently, career opportunities.<br /><br />Medical college admission test is the biggest admission battle of the country to handpick the aspiring doctors. A total of 84,484 candidates will compete for MBBS/BDS admission test for 10 thousand 299 seats in 126 public and private Medical-Dental colleges.<br /><br />According to the health ministry, there are 3,162 seats in 29 public medical colleges, while 5,325 in 64 private medical colleges for the MBBS course. Besides, nine public dental colleges have 532 seats for the BDS course while 24 non-government dental colleges 1,280 seats.<br /><br />So the extent and scope of competition can be easily comprehended. The test comprises of 100 multiple choice questions, each carrying one mark. Mark distribution is as follows: Biology 30, Chemistry 25, Physics 20, English 15, and General Knowledge 10.<br /><br />Students from science background have to study Physics and Chemistry for engineering university admission test, as well as for science faculties of different universities. But in case of medical admission test, the approach and pattern of preparation for these two subjects vary substantially than other tests.Medical admission test requires emphasis on the more informative portions of the textbooks. Rather than preparing for conceptual questions, more effort should be given on studying the various information and data provided in the textbooks.<br /><br />For example, in case of Physics, studying different experiments and their details, units of physical parameters, physical interpretation of different theories and their fields of applications, notable physicists and their works, important dates will come in handy.<br /><br />In case of Chemistry, understanding different chemical reactions, their mechanisms, reagents and products, and their usage are essential. A thorough knowledge of organic chemistry will prove to be invaluable.<br /><br />Biology is a subject that most students in their HSC/A-levels don't take much seriously. But for medical admission test, this is the subject that students need to focus on most. In case of Botany, chapters on Cell Biology (Cell, Cell Division, Cell Chemistry etc.) should be given emphasis. In Zoology, a comprehensive understanding of the human body is of utmost importance.<br /><br />Many students spend quite a lot of time on General Knowledge. But there's no end to it. Assign some particular time daily to studying GK, apart from that - don't over think and panic about it. Don't waste countless hours reading GK books, allot that time and energy to other subjects.<br /><br />It'll be good to follow a well-prepared guidebook that has got the previous years' questions. Don't rely totally on the answers provided in them, find them out yourselves. Follow one good book for GK; that should be enough.</div>

Country's First Software Testing Lab Established at JU

State Minister for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Junaid Ahmed Palak said that all the university will come to specialized lab area while the first step is held by Jahangirnagar University (JU).<br /><br />He said this at the inaugurating ceremony of the Software Testing and Quality Assurance Lab (STQAL) at the Institute of Information Technology (IIT) in Jahangirnagar University. The standard software project would be examined at STQAL that has been set up with the finance of the government.</div>

<br />The software testing lab has been set by the IIT of JU where JU students would be able to test software initially. Students will be able to enhance their skills through this lab.<br /><br />Speaking at the program as the chief guest, the state minister said, 'Bangladesh is the role model of the establishing of technology-knowledge based of society. We have been working to serve high speed 3G services in all Upazilas, creating human resource and industrial promotion.<br /><br />'Our aim is to serve the students of the remote areas as if they could be able to make self-employment knowing education, healthcare and agriculture service of the government', added the state minister.<br /><br />Chaired by the JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam, the program was addressed by the JU Pro-VC Professor Abul Hossain, local Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Enamur Rahman and director of IIT-JU KM Akkas Ali among others.</div>

NU Reduces Application Fees for 1st Year Admission Test

<br />The female students mentioned in the complaint that, we are from Muslim families. We do 'Purdah' from our early age as a family tradition. We were never encountered any resistance for our Niqab in other school and colleges. Till now, we keep wearing Niqab at the university with freedom.<br /><br />But the harsh truth is that, the teacher of 202-number course in 2nd year Samia Farhana Soma was forced us to open the Niqab in the last two days. We were forced to open our Niqab for two days against the intense pressure from her. Later, we again started taking part in the classes with Niqab, but she threw us out of the class and ordered us to not attend her class. Certainly, we have become upset. <br /><br />The lecturer Samia Farhana Soma said, I said them to take off the Niqab in the class, because I cannot understand their expression with Niqab. But they would not listen to me at all times.<br /><br />President of the department Professor Md. Munawar Hossain said, I don't hear the matter till now. So, I cannot say anything about this. </div>

The Cabinet on September 07, 2015 approved the Eighth National Pay Scale with a basic pay ranging between Tk. 8,250 and Tk. 78,000. Public universities' selection grade professors enjoyed the top grade along with secretaries and major generals in the Seventh National Pay Scale. Senior professors were included in grade-2 and professors in grade-3.<br /><br />However, the eighth pay scale does not separately mention the status of selection grade professors. Muhith on September 08, 2015 said the country's most educated section was demonstrating for the "lack of knowledge" and that their work abstention had "no justification". "They don't know what the pay scale has for them", he said.<br /><br />He went on alleging the universities promoted its teachers whenever it wished and dubbed it a "corrupt practice". The teachers' federation in a statement the same night dubbed his comments 'rude' and 'uncalled for'. On Wednesday, the federation in another statement claimed the minister had 'tarnished the government's image' on previous occasions with his 'uncalled-for', 'rude' and 'funny' comments.<br /><br />"He was a minister under a dictator and his autocratic mentality is still intact. His arrogance is the result of that unchanged autocratic attitude", the statement, issued in Bengali, said. It said the minister's comment had angered the country's 55 million-strong 'education family'.<br /><br />Independent MP Tahjib Alam Siddique in an unscheduled discussion in Parliament on Wednesday also took a dig at the minister. "The teachers are demonstrating for an end to the discrimination and the finance minister gave his reaction in his own way saying the teachers lacked knowledge", he said. Siddique lauded the teachers for continuing their movement.<br /><br />In the statement, the teachers' federation hoped government would fulfill their demands without any delay. "We'll be forced to resort to tougher demonstration to realize the teachers' logical demands", it warned.<br /><br />The government has asked a Cabinet committee to evaluate the teachers' proposals and make recommendations, the Cabinet secretary said on September 07, 2015. Rashid said, "I'd request the finance minister to discuss the matter (teachers' demands) with the prime minister and the education minister to find a solution". <br /></div>

NUB to Establish Institutional Quality Assurance Cell

Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) is awarded a project for the establishment of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)-an initiative undertaken by the University Grants Commission (UGC).<br /><br />In response to the approval of IQAC, NUB has formed Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) & Self Assessment Committee (SAC), and arranged an Introductory Ceremony of IQAC on September 09, 2015.</div>

Professor Dr. Abu Yousuf Md. Abdullah, Chairman, NUBT graced the occasion as the guest of honor, and Professor Dr. AWM Abdul Huq, Vice-Chancellor (in charge) and also the Chairman, QAC, NUB presided over the ceremony.<br /><br />Honorable Chief Guest Professor Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed highly appreciated the overall effort of NUB for the establishment of IQAC. In his speech, he identified the key areas of quality assurance and encouraged the IQAC to design a well structured process guideline to stress upon such areas and achieve IQAC objectives.<br /><br />Honorable Chairman and Guest of Honor, Professor Dr. Abu Yousuf Md. Abdullah, Chairman, NUBT has expressed his gratitude to UGC and The World Bank for allowing NUB to establish the IQAC. In a brief speech he has also mentioned the history of higher education in Bangladesh and the foundation of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), which plays a major role in the establishment of IQAC for NUB.</div>

EWU Students to Take the Street again Demanding No VAT

In protest against imposing 7.5 percent VAT on tuition fees of private university students, students of East West University (EWU) announced to take the street on September 10, 2015.<br /><br />They said they would assemble at the university premises at 9:30 am on September 10, 2015 demanding withdrawal of 7.5 percent VAT on their tuition fees. Students of several private universities have also expressed solidarity with the movement.</div>

<br />Demanding withdrawal of 7.5 percent VAT on tuition fees, EWU students staged demonstration on September 09, 2015 (Wednesday), blocking the entry to Aftab Nagar at Rampura. Vehicular movement on Rampura-Kuril road in the city almost came to a halt for several hours, causing acute traffic congestion.<br /><br />Witnesses said the EWU students took to the street in front of their university near Rampura Bridge around 2:00 pm protesting the government's move to impose 7.5 percent VAT on the tuition fees of the private universities.<br /><br />On information, police rushed in and tried to disperse them, said Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station. At one stage, the students pelted stones and brickbats at the law enforcers, triggering a chase and counter-chase. Later, police charged baton and opened fire on the students to disperse them, leaving 10-15 injured. Of the injured, some students and a teacher were taken to local hospitals.<br /><br />Traffic on Rampura-Kuril road was disrupted again around 4:40 pm as the protesting students brought out possessions on the road in front of the main gate of the university in Aftabnagar.<br /><br />Witnesses said the students chanted slogans blocking the road in favor of their demand and stayed there till 9:30 pm. On July 4, the NBR issued a notification imposing 7.5 percent VAT on the tuition fees of private universities and medical colleges. </div>
